The Personal Experience

 of HOLISTIC HEALING

To maintain your health properly, you must take care of yourself holographically - that is, in all areas and all levels of your life. The healing process requires great change on your part. You must move into new territory, new ways of caring for yourself, new life priorities, new ways to relate to your intimate partners, children, and friends. You must love and be true to yourself.

The process of healing is never a smooth, even curve upward into health. People go through distinct phases during the healing process. Healing requires changes of mind, emotion, and spirit, as well as a physical change. Most of us want the easy way out. Healing, like therapy, is a cyclical process that carries a person on a spiral of learning. Each cycle requires more self-acceptance and more change as one goes down deeper and deeper into the true, clear nature of the real Self. How far and deep each of us goes is entirely our own free choice.

As we go through the healing process, we are "re-membering" ourselves or bringing back our original connection to the deeper Self when we go through the healing process. "Re-membering" is bringing our "members" or parts or ourselves back together . . . much like putting the smaller pieces of the holographic plate back together.

You must be meticulously honest with yourself with regard to personal needs. It is important to admit that you have needs and know that it is O.K. to have them. It takes patience and self-searching to uncover these real needs. Not acknowledging them is a direct outcome of not living your life according to who you really are. Wherever and whenever your emerging creative process is stifled, you suffer the pangs of not having a sense of purpose, un-fulfillment, and pain. The joy of life vanishes and a sense of hopelessness overcomes the spirit and inevitably drags it down into depression.

Healing with Sound

Sound has been used for centuries by healers and medicine men of all traditions and cultures for healing. The ancient tradition of chanting changes the auric field (the energy field that surrounds and interpenetrates the body) so that we are brought into altered states of consciousness. Sound affects not only the first level of the auric field that shapes the chakra, but also the second level of the field where the chakras are the rainbow colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and white.

Listed below are the colors and musical notes associated with the chakras:

It is beneficial to picture the particular color in your mind when listening to the appropriate healing sound. If you cannot, it is an indication that your chakra is not functioning properly.

Music plays a very important role in health and healing. Many healers use music to help calm the auric field or bring it to high vibrational heights to help the client go into a healing state. Some selections of music are very soothing; others charge the energy field. Some selections of music enhance altered states; others awaken the rational mind. (Drum music is beneficial for grounding to connect with earth energies and to open the 1st and 2nd chakras.) Love songs open our 4th chakra. Popular rock opens sexuality and gets the body and the aruic field moving in a lively fast pace that increases the energy flowing through the field. Harp music takes us to the experience of the essence of our core.

Deepak Chopra suggests the following to enhance balance and healing:

Take a deep breath and make the sound while exhaling.  Each sound may be repeated from one to three times. This should be done daily for optimum results.

for balancing the whole body - the vowels

A E I O U

for the lungs, sinuses, skull -

HUM HUM HUM

for the ears -

N N N

for the nasal passages, sinuses (sinus headaches) -

MA MA MA

for the jaw (migraine and tension headaches) -

Using AROMATHERAPY

Aromas are used to send specific signals that balance the auric field. In theory, essential oils are absorbed into the body either through the pores of the skin during massage, or by inhalation through the nose. Molecules within the oils are said to enter the nervous system through the bloodstream, influencing emotional and physical well-being.

Type "A" (hyper) personality would find balance using a mixture of warm, sweet, sour aromas like basil, orange, rose geranium, clove, and other spices.

Type "B" (placid) personality would find balance using a mixture of warm aromas, but with spicier overtones, like juniper, eucalyptus, camphor, clove, and marjoram.

Type "C" (mixture of both A & B) would find balance by using a mixture of sweet, cool aromas like sandalwood, rose, mint, cinnamon, and jasmine.

This is a very basic guide for using aromatherapy. One should consult with an Aroma therapist for a more personalized application and treatment.

Both sound and color are created through a vibrational wave, and thus both have a wave structure and a frequency of vibration. Sound and colored light are very different, however. Sound is a longitudinal compression wave that travels through a material substance like the air or the wall of your house. Longitudinal means that it travels along the same path as its wave motion. The sounds that we hear do not exist in outer space or in a vacuum - they must have that material substance to be transmitted.

Colored light, on the other hand, is an electromagnetic wave that vibrates perpendicular to its path of movement. It can travel through outer space or a vacuum. Both are manifestations of the divine. Color is essential to health. We need all the colors in our auric fields. If we are clear (chakras) we are attracted to the colors we need.

Since every disease is associated with the dysfunction of certain chakras, and the dysfunctioning chakra needs to be nourished with the color it is lacking, color can be used for the treatment of different disease. For example:

An under active thyroid needs the color Blue. An overactive thyroid needs the color Green, which is a color that does general balancing of the field.

Multiple sclerosis patients need Red and Orange because the 1st and 2nd chakras are most affected.

All cancer patients need Gold, since all cancer has a torn-open aura on the 7th level , which is Gold. They also need the color of the chakra in the area that the cancer is located in the body; i.e., liver or pancreatic cancer patients need Yellow and Peach, the colors of the 3rd chakra.

The Heart Chakra is central to all healing because all healing energy must pass through the center of the heart chakra on its way to part of the body that needs healing.

You may wear these colors, decorate with them, or use them in all artistic expression.

A Balanced Diet

Although everyone's needs vary, eating the right balance of foods can make a big difference in your health. A healthy diet should consist of about 15% protein, 50% carbohydrates, and 30% fats. It is also important to get plenty of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and water.

Protein - Every cell in the body needs protein, in the form of amino acids for growth, maintenance, and repair on a daily basis. Sources: meat, fish, cheese, and eggs.

Carbohydrates - Our largest and most immediate source of energy. The body transforms them into glucose (the body's basic fuel) and glycogen, which is stored in the liver and muscles and can be converted to glucose when necessary. There are two main types of carbohydrates: simple and complex.
Simple carbohydrates are basic sugars which are rapidly absorbed to provide instant energy and have no nutritional value in themselves. Sources:
cane or beet sugar as well as sugars found in fruit, honey, vegetables, and milk. Complex carbohydrates are broken down more slowly than simple sugars. They are compounds of several sugars and tend to be stored as glycogen. Sources: bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, legumes, cereal grains and in root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes. Complex carbohydrates tend to have a nutritional bonus of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Fats - Fats are composed of fatty acids and are the most concentrated source of food energy, providing twice as many calories as carbohydrates or protein. Fats are vital for health in small amounts. They are the only source of essential and other fatty acids. While a certain amount of fat is necessary for healthy functioning, too much can cause serious health problems. There are three types of fats:

Saturated and monounsaturated fat - Can be made by the body, so are not strictly needed in the diet. Too much saturated fat (found in fatty meat, hard cheese, and butter) can raise blood-cholesterol levels and lead to obesity and heart disease. Monounsaturated fat, found in olives, avocados, nuts, and seeds, is healthier than saturated fats.

Unsaturated - (including mono- and polyunsaturated) - Polyunsaturated fat contains essential fatty acids, which are vital for health and can only be supplied by food. Sources: vegetable oils and oily fish.

Trans fats - which are associated with heart disease, are manufactured by converting unsaturated vegetable oils into saturated fats.

Guidelines for Optimum Nutrition

Make a third of your daily diet starchy complex carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and whole grains.
Eat at least 7 portions of fruits & vegetables a day - preferably organic.
Obtain protein from poultry, fish, legumes, cereal, and low-fat dairy products rather than red meat.
Use skim milk and low-fat dairy products instead of full-fat foods.
Eat oily fish and nuts for essential fatty acids.
Use olive oil or other mono-unsaturated oils for salads and cooking.
Eat plenty of foods high in fiber: rice, nuts, legumes, whole grains.
Steam vegetables rather than frying or boiling.
Drink juices and enough water to keep your urine pale.

The Benefits of Exercise

The benefits of exercise have been researched, and evidence in its favor is overwhelming. Regular exercise improves the function of the heart and lungs and strengthens muscles to give more stamina. It keeps joints mobile, increases circulation so that the skin looks healthier, helps prevent heart disease and prostate, colon, and breast cancer, lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reduces the risk of diabetes, and helps weight loss.

Exercise may help alleviate premenstrual tension and menstrual pain, and strengthens bones by increasing their mineral content, which reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

Research has revealed that exercise can improve mood, lift depression, boost self-esteem, lessen anxiety, and enable us to cope better with stress. It encourages sound sleep, improves immune function and helps us live longer. All human activity - physical or mental - is powered by energy converted from food that has been eaten and oxygen that has been breathed into the lungs. A flexible body with good muscle tone, and with an efficient heart and lungs well synchronized with the circulation, can help create a sense of physical wholeness. This makes us feel energized and ready to deal with life's demands.

Flexibility is achieved by stretching muscles and is maintained by activities such as golf, skiing, yoga, dancing, etc. Exercise can be fun too!!

Dancing

Golfing

Skiing

Exercise Tips

Warm up for 5-10 minutes before exercising to increase heart rate and blood flow, stretch the muscles, and reduce the risk of injury.
Cool down afterwards with slower movements and stretching exercises to prevent muscle cramps and stiffness.
Set sensible goals, especially if you haven't exercised for a while. Build up gradually so you are less likely to become fatigued and dispirited.
Drink plenty of fluids to replace what is lost in sweat, during and after exercise, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Stop if you feel any pain. At first, muscles may feel sore after exercising. Wear suitable clothing and shoes.
