Pluto correlates to the Soul and evolution. What is a soul? According to many spiritual, religious and metaphysical sources, including the Bahagavad-Gita and the Bible, the Soul is an immutable consciousness that has its own individuality or identity that remains intact from life to life. In each lifetime, of course, the Soul manifests a personality that has a subjective consciousness and unconsciousness.
Saturn defines the boundaries of the subjective consciousness - that of which we are consciously aware.
Uranus represents the individualized unconscious.
Neptune represents the collective unconscious.
and Pluto
represents the Soul itself.
Each personality that the soul manifests, from lifetime to lifetime, has an ego (Moon) that serves as a focusing agent to create one's own self image. The Moon is similar to the lens in a movie projector - without the lens there would be no picture upon the screen. Each personality that the Soul manifests relates directly to the evolutionary necessities of the Soul. The Soul must experience life in particular ways through the personality in order to grow and evolve.
Each personality created is directly linked to the past evolutionary and karmic history of the Soul.
From a purely psychological point of view, Pluto represents the deepest emotional security patterns in all of us, which are unconscious. The patterns in identity association that are carried over from the evolutionary past are directly linked to the path of least resistance to which most of us gravitate to. The past represents familiarity and that which is known. Our deep-seated security needs drive us to approach certain areas in life in exactly the same way over and over again. These areas are specifically linked to the natal position of Pluto.
Pluto implies a compelling force to maintain that area (house and sign) in the familiar ways of operating - the past.
This compelling force can be called compulsion or obsession if the resistance (desire) is strong enough. The strength of the resistance determines the magnitude of problems or confrontations experienced in Pluto's natal house and sign position.
Because Pluto represents an essentially unconscious process, the individual is basically unaware of the motivational patterns of the Soul, and may feel stagnated, frustrated, or wonder why the same lessons, the same mistakes, the same kind of relationships, the same problems . . . . occur over and over again.
Sound familiar? Eventually the person may ask "Why am I here?". "What am I suppose to be doing?" And "What can I do about these things?"
An astrologer can indicate ways to help an individual become freer and more growth-oriented. Once the person becomes aware of the problems, motivations, needs, desires, attitudes and security issues dictating his/her experiences, the necessay changes may occur - if the individual desires to initiate them. Everything begins with desire. We do have choices. The choices we make are reflected in our desires, and desire determines everything that occurs, individually and collectively.
